PRE-CAST STAIRS UNIT
AS OF 2026, WE ARE PARTNERING WITH STEELWAY FOR THE INSTALLATION OF PRE-CAST STAIRS UNITS
Sometimes it’s not just a cellar door that needs to be changed. Sometimes the customer wants
- A new entrance to the basement, with new stairs, where none previously existed.
- Remove an old metal foundation/stairs unit, and put in a new precast cement unit that will never rust out
This is a perilous industry, much like a minefield to be navigated. There are significant liability and insurance issues, and contract exclusions. Most contractors won’t do it. They don’t want to “GC” all the forces and materials needed, all on the same morning. Excavation contractors who are willing to take on the risks and liabilities charge a staggering amount of money.
The size and weight of the Steelway vehicles coming onto the property is typically about 5 times what the homeowner expects. Imagine a road construction crew coming to the house. “Wow, lots of tonka toys” said one customer. Nosy neighbors will be watching all day.
I will quote a price if there is adequate vehicular access to the cellar door area for the project, and there no other significant problems or obstacles.

The Steelway vehicles are very heavy and will damage a grass lawn, including making ruts and scraping away the grass. Bushes, gardens, mulch areas, and gravel areas in and near the work area will be damaged. The construction vehicles may even damage an asphalt driveway, not through neglect, but simply from the weight.

Steelway is not repairing driveways, lawns, or any landscaping. The customer will agree to the exclusions before signing a contract.
